Journal Entry: Math for Teaching Arithmetic

This past fall semester I had the wonderful privilege of taking Andy’s [Dr. Andrew Engelward] class, Math for Teaching Arithmetic. I really enjoyed the class because I felt like I was instantly able to apply what I learned with my middle school students.

Due to his class assignments, I was I able to bring back interesting puzzles and fun games my students were able to enjoy. Because of his class, I was able to make my class fun for the students. I was able to offer a whole different mathematical perspective to my class, and students were beginning to realize how fun math can truly be. I myself liked that I was able to reinforce what I learned because I was able to apply my learning with the students, and the students liked to feel like they were participating in my learning from Harvard.

To them it was as if they were attending Harvard.
